Ms Humdrum recommends ... Baffled Coffee, Southsea

I realise I'm slightly late to the party with this one, but I've just never got around to going to Baffled, despite hearing many, many good reviews from friends. I am a sucker for a beach view, so I usually visit the seafront for coffee catch-ups. The opportunity arose today with a friend from work. 
The cafe is on Fawcett Road; parking wasn't a problem as roads nearby are permits between 4-6pm. This was a brunch meet-up! Brunch is served up until 11am and there are already three other dishes I want to try, so I'll have to arrange to come again. I wanted to choose the avocado crostini, but I knew I'd be having that tomorrow at my next brunch catch-up, so I went for the breakfast stack. My friend ordered the avocado crostini so I definitely knew I'd be having this next. Sliced avo and a perfectly poached egg were served on sourdough (I think) with lime and chilli salsa - this is from memory so forgive me if I'm wrong. Looking delicious, my friend said it tasted delicious too. Priced at £5.50, you can double up for £2 extra. My breakfast stack comprised a fritatta (nice touch), sausage, crispy bacon with a chutney/jam topping and a huge field mushroom in a brioche bun. Priced at £7.50, I had to leave the top of the bun as it was so filling - and anyone who knows me, knows I can eat a huge breakfast! 

We had two cups of tea (no spilling teapots thankfully) and sat cosily in a window seat. It was warm enough, not a chilly draught in sight. The staff were very friendly and offered over extra tea to accompany our gossiping. We stayed an hour and a half and, on the way out, admired all of the homemade cakes and pastries baked on the premises. I must try the chocolate and avocado ball next time, and I can tell my mum that they make her favourite Portuguese tarts there too fresh every day! Looking at their Facebook page, I can see they offer a picnic box (2 sandwiches, 2 savoury pastries, one large salad, 2 cakes and 2 canned drinks) for £24. I think I may be ordering that later in the year for a trip to the beach!  

I can't wait to go back and nor can my friend. Just goes to show that a sea view doesn't always a good breakfast make. Top marks!

A walk from Portchester Castle to Salt Cafe

Well we just had to choose the worst day of the year to walk. The date had been set weeks before - who knew there would be the worst winds of the decade almost on this very day? Would I Lie To You board family game review

Would I Lie To You? "The game of believable lies and unbelievable lies ", linked into the TV show of the same name. Purchased:  December 2017 in Waterstones, for around £20 In a nutshell: These TV show-affiliated games usually show themselves up (Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Top Gear) but this game is fun and easy to play (if a little modified) as a family. You don't really need specialist knowledge to play, just the ability to lie! Every year for Christmas, I like to buy a board game to play, even though no games better either Ludo (in which my dad is the reigning cheater-champion, and argues to high heaven over the rules about doubling up or how to place your counters in "Home") or Rummikub (which we can now play with two packs of cards lest we forget the game). Family and friends, tasty tea, cute cakes, succulent sarnies, scrumptious scones… what more could you ask for? Some sightseeing around Central London please. Oh, and on a vintage red double decker bus, if you don’t mind. What I’ve described is exactly what you get from the B Afternoon Tea Bus Tour. Priced at around what I paid for the Ritz afternoon tea some five years ago, you rock up at Victoria bus station and check-in to board the bus. The waiting staff guide you on and you find your booth. I manged to get a photo before anyone arrived.  The tea is set up for you and is sort of stuck down on the table with a little bit of material!
